Aurelio Lomi 1566-1624. Santa Maria Egiziaca shows Magdalene the instruments of penance oil on canvas 170 x 130 cm signed on the lower left "AURELIUS LOMIUS FLOREN"
The piece was possibily commissioned for a private client, is divided between the two characters placed in stark contrast between them, Santa Maria Egiziaca portrayed in an ascetic vision, with the pale face of the penitent and Magdalene, still represented in a sensual way adorned with a purple robe bordered with gold and precious stones and her breasts hidden by her long hair, but ready to receive the instruments of penance.
